About Charlie
Charlie is a 24-year-old woman who has been living in our supported accommodation for around a year and a half. She has bipolar and autism which can make normal activities harder for her. Consequently, she lives in one of our properties in Lincoln after she had to drop out of first year university. Sadly she was that she was not able to manage her course at university of Lincoln, meaning she had to drop out and was left facing homelessness in Lincoln. This is because she was unable to return home due to her parents being split up, not having anything to do with her dad and the situation between her and her mother turning toxic.
Charlies Goals
Originally Charlie wanted to pursue a career in LAW, helping people with drug proceedings who slip through the cracks and get thrown aside. However, her autism made this particularly difficult which is the reasoning for having to drop out of first year.
Charlies time at LEAP
During Charlies time at LEAP, she managed to successfully have two years sober from hard drugs. Furthermore, successfully broke free from her toxic relationships keeping her surrounded with negative attributes. After all this she got back up on her feet and started an undergraduate degree, sorted out her finances, mental health and had gone back on medication.
LEAP provided Charlie with housing and support throughout the 1 and a half years she had been with us. In fact Charlie spoke very highly of the support that was provided by LEAP, she said she was given regular contact and support. Moreover, Charlie had been assigned 2 support workers throughout her time. As a result of these workers support Charlie ended up summarising their support with: “if you needed someone to go to about anything they were there”.
In addition, Charlies support workers were able to help her apply for a science undergraduate degree. Assisting her with the application process. Charlie moved to science as it was a more obtainable degree that she could manage with her autism, her organisational skills also greatly improved.
Charlies’ current goals a LEAP Housing Success story
Looking to move on with her life from LEAP. Charlie is looking for a property through home finder council housing schemes. She is also continuing her science degree working toward graduating.
