LEAP Celebrates World Hello Day with Cream Tea and Scones

LEAP celebrated World Hello day on Friday 20th November by hosting an afternoon cream tea event where the first 30 people who said ‘hello’ received free food and drink. Among the visitors who came to the event were Councillor Chris Burke and Lincolnshire Police.

Councillor Rosanne Kirk, the council’s Portfolio Holder for Social Inclusion and Community Cohesion said: “Saying ‘hello’ is the first step towards getting to know people, understanding them and creating a more inclusive society in Lincoln. We need to support each other.

“The council’s Community Cohesion strategy shares the main aims of World Hello Day: Improving our understanding of each other, promoting tolerance and respect through better communication.

“It’s not too late to get involved. Everyone can take part just by saying hello to someone new.”

LEAP also received generous donations towards the afternoon tea event. A total of £25 was donated by the City Council and a further £25 was donated by the Cream Tea Society.

The event which ran from 1.30pm – 3.00pm included information about LEAP and the opportunity to talk to staff, volunteers and young people.

Visitors at the event were also asked to write a short hello message. World Hello Day is an international day, which provides an opportunity for people to say hello and get to know each other. All over Lincoln, around the country and the world alike, people said hello to each other in different ways and in different languages.
